Bangladesh has more than 5 million solar home systems, but an estimated 600,000 kWh of energy is wasted every day because the home system batteries are unable to store all of the power produced by the panels. SOLshare taps into this excess power by linking solar home systems into modular microgrids, which makes it possible for households and small businesses to share and sell their excess energy using a peer-to-peer trading platform with a dynamic pricing system and mobile money payments. SOLshare focuses on helping people in rural off-grid areas access clean energy, but their decentralized microgrid technology has global potential.
