KEP Textile Atelier manufactures clothing under the highest ethical and environmental standards and creates stable employment for disadvantaged women in Turkey. They provide crisis intervention and stabilization services from a shelter in rural Fayette County and two satellite offices in their service area. The GreenHouse17 farm surrounds the shelter and provides opportunities for nature-based healing, nutritious field-to-table produce, and job training for survivors. Their services are based on the trauma-informed care model. Adults living in the shelter have the opportunity to participate on the farm, should they choose, in exchange for an hourly stipend. GreenHouse17 offers a community-supported agriculture (CSA) membership for agrichemical-free summer flowers. They also use flowers and herbs from the farm to create their Handmade by Survivors range of soaps, lip balms, bath salts, and soy wax candles. Their travel gear is made in small batches from overrun stock of upholstery-weight fabric that would have otherwise been sent to landfill. They are in the process of developing a residential program for women in recovery with space for six to eight women and their children to live in community and receive counseling, recovery support, and life skills training.
