Supplying the Shop

Good Market is a curated platform for social enterprises and responsible businesses that meet minimum sector standards and are good for people and good for the planet.  There are 2 steps to supplying the Good Market shop.

STEP 1: Become a Good Market Approved Vendor
Read the minimum sector standards and submit an online application form.  Only Good Market approved enterprises are eligible to supply the Good Market shop

STEP 2: Shop Committee Review
After becoming a Good Market approved vendor, submit additional info by email for the Shop Committee to review.

The following information is required for each product:

  • List of all ingredients
  • Packaging information or photo of packaging
  • Weight or volume
  • Supply price
  • Maximum retail price if printed on package
  • Stocking requirement (e.g. shelf, chiller, freezer)
  • Expiration period / shelf life (e.g. 7 days, 1 month, 6 months)
Good Market Shop Sign

For any farm products (e.g. fresh fruits, vegetables, rice, coconuts) or products with the word organic on the label, a copy of a third-party or PGS organic certification is required.

Vendors are responsible for ensuring that their products meet health and safety standards and government requirements.

The shop space is small, and it is not possible to include all products.  Like the event, the shop is curated, and some product categories are highly competitive.  Product selection is based on customer demand, Good Market standards, and affordability.  Since there is very limited storage and products are all-natural with limited shelf life, orders tend to be small, but frequent.  Here are a few points to consider:

Art and Handicrafts
It is not possible to sell Art and Handicrafts out of the current location (e.g. clothing, accessories, housewares, etc.).  Good Market can help refer Art and Handicrafts vendors to other retail outlets.

Farm Products
Fresh fruit, vegetables, and rice must either be certified organic or verified under an organic participatory guarantee system (PGS).  The shop is only able to take products from vendors that have experience consistently filling weekly orders.  Small volume products and irregular deliveries are better suited to the Saturday Good Market event.

Highly Perishable Products
The Good Market shop is not able to order packaged products that have a shelf life of less than a week.  Exceptions may be made if there are many customer requests for the product.

Expensive Products
Most products at the Good Market shop are less than Rs 500.  It is difficult for the shop to maintain inventory of more expensive products, particularly since the risk of theft and shrinkage is higher.  Exceptions may be made if there are many customer requests for the product.
