Fair pricing, scholarships, and sliding scale workshop fees help ensure that programs are inclusive. Crosshatch envisions communities that are grounded in place: where people connect through stories, music, art, shared work, and food, and where the economy and culture are rooted in restoration of the earth and its people.​

T-Hues is a natural dye initiative started by Dynawash, an industrial laundry specializing in garment dyeing for apparel exporters in Sri Lanka. In partnership with local researchers, they developed a process to create 15 colors of natural dyes from tea waste. Coloring a cotton T-shirt with these plant-based dyes reduces the carbon footprint by 75 percent compared with a conventionally dyed T-shirt. T-Hues uses the waste materials from Unilever’s iced tea manufacturing process and creates a range of natural dyes used by international brands. They also offer naturally dyed clothing and accessories under the T-Hues name.

WomenCraft

WomenCraft

Dar es Salaam, Tanzania

WomenCraft works with over 600 women artisans in the tri-border area of Tanzania, Rwanda, and Burundi. The region has experienced decades of violence and insecurity including multiple genocides which have caused mass migration of local populations. WomenCraft brings together artisans from all three countries, including refugees, and in doing so fosters peace and relationships in an area plagued by animosity and conflict. WomenCraft also contributes to the preservation of local weaving traditions. Their modern baskets and housewares are made from native grasses and reeds and the threads of recycled grain sacks. WomenCraft is a member of the World Fair Trade Organization.

FlipYarn is a pioneering recycling program to collect and upcycle discarded flip flops. Synthetic rubber flip flops are worn by an estimated 3 billion people, and every pair that has ever been made still exists in the environment. They pollute beaches and oceans and harm marine life. FlipYarn partners with waste collectors, sorting facilities, and beach cleaning volunteers, pays for discarded flip flops, cleans them, and upcycles them into sunglasses, accessories, and other fun and colorful products. The remaining offcuts are shredded and used as filling or packing material. FlipYarn funds tree planting for every product sold.

Each year, at least 4 percent of pre-tax profits are donated to organizations focused on organics, sustainability, social justice and caring for those in need. More than half of annual giving goes to their Well Earth sustainable sourcing program which focuses on improving life in the communities that grow Frontier products. Employee volunteers at their Norway, Iowa headquarters have converted more than 20 acres of agricultural land into tallgrass prairie with dozens of species of native grasses and forms. INEB facilitates understanding, exchange, and collaboration across Buddhist traditions and works closely with social action groups from other religions. The Secretariat shares information within the network and facilitates conferences, training, and education programs that strengthen and support socially active individuals and groups.
