Mashjar Juthour

Mashjar Juthour is an arboretum and environmental initiative on the outskirts of Ramallah that was started to preserve Palestine’s natural heritage, protect local wildlife, and educate and engage the local community in environmental activism. They have been restoring the land, rebuilding traditional stone wall terraces, and planting indigenous trees since 2013. Mashjar Juthour composts food waste from a local restaurant, purchases organic goat manure from a nearby farm, uses ash from local bakeries as pest control, plants alfalfa, fava, and other legumes as green manure, and practices rainwater harvesting. They host school visits, yoga, volunteer days, harvest events, foraging programs, guided walks, workshops, Family Fridays, and more.
